Terminal Grounding Bar Introduction and User Manual
What is a terminal grounding busbar?
A terminal grounding busbar is a connecting accessory which is used to connect the ground wire of equipment to the grounding grid. It is mainly composed of a busbar, insulators, low carbon steel brackets and stainless steel fasteners (including bolts, nuts, and lock/flat washers).
The busbar is very important. And it is generally made of annealed copper, aluminum, stainless steel or pure silver.
-
The busbar made of annealed copper has excellent conductivity and good stability. Compared to other materials, its cost is higher. It is used in situations with high requirements such as high-voltage power systems or electrical equipment with strict requirements for grounding quality.
- The busbar made of aluminum has good conductivity. But compared to copper, its conductivity is slightly worse. Its cost is relatively low. So it is an economical and practical choice pick up the busbar made of aluminum. It is used in some medium and low voltage power systems.
- The busbar made of stainless steel has good corrosion resistance and high mechanical strength. It can provide stable and long-lasting grounding effects and ensure the safe operation of equipment. It is usually used in special environmental conditions such as high temperature, humidity, or highly corrosive situations.
- The busbar made of pure silver is the best conductive material. It has excellent conductivity and corrosion resistance. But its cost is relatively high. It is used in situations with very strict grounding requirements such as communication equipment, high-precision electronic equipment, etc.
The terminal grounding bar is a high current and conductive product. It is mainly used to establish an equipotential system between the grounding conductor and various metal components in the connection system. And this system has basically no voltage. This is the reason that why terminal grounding busbars can protect the safety of personnel and equipment in the event of overcurrent or faults.
For example, the terminal grounding busbar plays an important role in electrical engineering, including preventing leakage of electrical equipment, providing safety protection for electrical equipment, improving electromagnetic compatibility and ensuring the normal operation of electrical systems.
How to wire a busbar?
Choose the wiring method of the terminal grounding busbar mainly based on actual needs and specific conditions. Here are some common wiring methods below:
- Star connection
Connect multiple grounding busbars to a central node. This connection method has an effect of voltage-sharing. This connection method is used for the situation with a large number and wide distribution of equipment.
- Parallel connection
Connect multiple terminal grounding busbars in parallel and each busbar of them is connected to the grounding grid separately. This connection method is used for the situation where the number of devices is small and the distribution is concentrated.
- Series connection
Connect multiple terminal grounding busbars in series: one end of each busbar is connected to the other end of the previous busbar and the other end is connected to the grounding network. This connection method is used for the situation where the number of devices is large and a longer grounding line is required.
